Queensland Police

2018 Operation Sentinel

Overview of Project

Operation Sentinel is a Queensland Police Service (QPS) project designed to support major event operations throughout South East Queensland. Capitalising on the success of the transport management operation for the 2014 G20 Summit delivered by WCL to the Queensland Police Service, in 2017, WCL Management Services was commissioned to develop a transport management system that would support in excess of 1,100 movements daily for up to 3,000 individual officers throughout a 1000sq km network.

The Challenge

Critical to the success, WCLMS was tasked with the ability to integrate a technology-based transport management system with new and existing QPS Systems. All existing systems would continue to operate throughout Operation Sentinel and receive in excess of 300,000 individual and group change requests throughout a 28-day period, reinforcing the primary project brief criteria: to deliver an integrated and live management system.

The Solution

  • Development of a dynamic mapping and route management system that was linked to every scheduled movement.

  • Deliver a fleet management solution that captures vehicle and driver information (company-owned and sub-contractor), allocates bookings to specific operators, drivers and/or vehicles

  • Provide a tracking solution that will allow the contracting agency (QPS) and supporting agencies with access to vehicle location and schedules in real-time based on user permission levels and utilise this data for reporting purposes.

  • Successfully deliver a solution that will electronically notify users of their booking schedule, service changes, and general messaging in real time and allow for live change management of individual services across a 1000 sq. km operating network

  • Successfully integrate a transport technology management system to existing systems

  • Provide a solution that provides drivers with a GPS system to allow for effective and efficient navigation of the primary and alternative routes

  • Provide a GPS tracking solution (including equipment) that provides visibility of all QPS transport vehicles on routes and the ability to filter by client and/or agency

  • Provide a vehicle activity tracking solution to record service start and completion details either by geo-fencing technology and/or driver communication and link this data to audit-based reporting systems

  • Delivered an online training solution that is scalable to a variety of user groups as required by the client
